Developing a culture of excellence and accountability requires a leader that utilizes continuous assessment to listen and learn from the organization’s internal and external customers. This data driven decision making strategy sets the tone for clear, consistent, honest, and frank communicating of the organization’s vision. Continuous improvement require teams to be empowered to endlessly improve their programs and processes, seek applicable technology, and empower each team member to own and lead their improvement initiatives. It is through individual improvements that the teams and organization will experience overall growth and development.
Leadership requires continuous monitoring of performance scorecards, and holding my team and myself accountable for performance outcomes. If performance outcomes are below expectation, data should be use to guide a collaborative team effort in determining where the gaps exits, and resources allocated in the short and long term to correct the gaps. However, successful performances must be recognized, celebrated and rewarded to keep the team members intrinsically and extrinsically motivated.
Developing a performance driven culture requires the development of a cadre of subject matter experts whose judgment and decision making can be trusted. This I believe, requires the full utilizing of the team knowledge in learning the processes and assisting in the decision making process. If there are gaps in knowledge, investment must be made in human capital to train and develop the workforce at every level to compete with peers in their field.
